Deputy chief minister Hemant soren on Friday donned an activist’s cap and spoke on behalf of the peoples living in mining areas who are generally poor.

The occasion was the release of a report on mineral wealth profit sharing by the Centre for Science and environment, soren who was the chief gust described the mines department as the most lucrative one and admitted that people living in the mining areas were very poor. That situation has come after the displaced.

There was a time when public representatives cared the least for the mines portfolio, and if it was given to them, would demand one more department. Now the department has become the most sought after’, he said without explaining if it was the same for him.

Soren then referred to keonjhar district In Orissa where mining had been going on since 1950 and said that though the produced wealth, local residents in Keonjhar had remained one of the poorest despite this. For the benefit or profit is not shared with them.

Coming back to Jharkhand he said that in the state, there was “uppar paisa, niche paisa” That is, there is money here, there and everythngs” making a reference to corruption.
